Overview & Highlights

Located in the heart of Madrid’s Centro district, La Negra Tomasa transports diners straight to the vibrant streets of Cuba through its authentic Cuban cuisine and lively atmosphere. This cozy, intimate restaurant on C. de Cadiz invites you to savor the rich flavors and spirited culture of Cuba while enjoying live Latin music that sets an energetic and immersive backdrop for any night out.

The menu is a delightful journey through Cuban culinary traditions, bursting with colorful, fresh ingredients and deeply satisfying textures. Start your meal “a compartir” (to share) with crowd-pleasers like the Guacamole fresco served with zesty pico de gallo, cool crema agria, and sharp cheddar, accompanied by crispy corn totopos, or indulge in the cheesy comfort of Tequeños de queso — wheat dough stuffed with gooey creole cheese, paired with a subtly sweet guava coulis that tempers the dish beautifully. For those craving something more robust, the savory Empanadas filled with chicken and cheese, served alongside pico de gallo and a refreshing cilantro mojito, provide a perfect balance of hearty and fresh flavors.

Among the main dishes, the traditional Ropa Vieja stands out as a soul-warming classic. Tender slow-cooked shredded beef melds with fragrant spices, served with smoky black beans, fluffy rice, and sweet fried plantains that add a wonderful contrast in both flavor and texture. Another must-try is their Cuban sandwich, boasting layers of roasted pork, Gouda cheese, grilled ham, pickles, and mustard nestled inside fluffy brioche, accompanied by crisp yuca dressed in a creamy huancaína sauce — a real crowd-pleaser that captures Cuban street food at its best. For lighter fare, the Tacos de gambas showcase plump shrimp bathed in smoky chipotle sauce, with guacamole and beans rounding out this vibrant dish.

Complementing the food is an expertly curated cocktail list, bursting with classic Latin libations. The mojitos here truly embody Cuba’s spirit, crisp and refreshing with just the right balance of mint and lime, while fruity options like the Daiquiri Mango and Piña Colada offer tropical sweetness. Though some visitors note the drinks lean towards the pricier side, the quality and authentic preparation justify the indulgence. Live music performances featuring salsa and bachata add an infectious energy, inspiring guests to dance or simply soak in the rhythmic heartbeat of the evening.

The intimate setting, while limited in size, only adds to the charm of La Negra Tomasa, creating a scene that is bustling and vibrant — perfect for those who thrive on lively social atmospheres and music-driven nights out. It’s a place where locals and visitors alike come for more than just a meal; they come for an experience that stirs the soul and excites the senses.

If you’re in Madrid and craving a genuine taste of Cuban culture — rich flavors, lively rhythms, and warm hospitality — La Negra Tomasa is your go-to spot. Just remember to arrive ready to dance and savor every moment.

I went for just one drink to check out the place and it was 10€ for a cocktail, 5€ for a water. The music was live and fun. The space is very small, so if you’re arriving just for a drink and to watch it’s a bit of a squeeze to get a view of the band and stay out of the way of the people dancing (also fun to watch!) and out of the way of the waiters going to and from the main part of the bar. By midnight the dancing picked up and you will be asked to dance (sadly I didn’t know how to) so if you dance to Latin music definitely check it out! I stayed around 2 hours and enjoyed myself and would return

Great atmosphere, Live latin music. Cocktails were over the bad side, pricey . I don't mind paying for something at least good, we tried the mojito's and the daikiri could not taste the rum. Drink something else( maybe wine or beer) The food was ok, ropa vieja, masas fritas and cuban tamales totally recommend , yuca frita meh! I wouldnT take kids at least not at night, only because the music is loud and gets very crowded, busy but not in bad way . I went for dinner at 10pm with my kids (6-13) we had a good time, but me and my husband grow up having family dinners lile that But as a mom rasing kids in US , I had my doubts Make a RESERVATION ,

La Negra Tomasa is the place to go if you’re into Latin music, dancing, and a high-energy vibe in central Madrid. There’s a real dance floor where people are actually dancing, not just standing around. I went on a Thursday and they had live music, which was fantastic! Perfect for salsa, bachata, or just having a fun, music-filled night. Beers start at €8, but the atmosphere makes it absolutely worth it. Highly recommended if you’re looking to dance, meet people, and enjoy Latin culture in the city.

Tasty Cuban food. We shared the tres leches cake for dessert between 3 of us and it was delicious and more than a big enough portion size. Delightful live salsa music and even though there wasn't much, there was some space to dance. Had a very fun time. Drinks do seem on the more expensive side but everything else is great.
